Scite.ai is a new platform introducing “Smart Citations“. This free tool for citations allows users to see how a research paper has been cited by providing the context of the citation.

What is Scite?

Scite is an award-winning platform for discovering and evaluating scientific articles via Smart Citations.

Smart Citations allow users to see how a scientific paper has been cited by providing the context of the citation.

Scite_ is a Brooklyn-based startup that helps researchers better discover and evaluate scientific articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by researchers from dozens of countries and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.

How are citations classified?

Citations are classified by a deep learning model that is trained to identify three categories of citation statements: those that provide contrasting or supporting evidence for the cited work, and others, which mention the cited study without providing evidence for its validity.

Scite Smart Citations Features

Create Custom Dashboard

Create a custom dashboard that aggregates information from scite on a group of DOIs. You may include for example a set of papers on a subject area, related to a drug, or anything else you wish.

Journals and Institution Metrics

Explore journal and institutional dashboards to find their publications, compare rankings, and see changes in their yearly scite Index.

What is the scite Index?

The scite Index (SI) measures how supported publications from a journal are, and is calculated using the following formula:

sji-formula

For example, the 2019 2-year SI includes citations to articles published in 2018 and 2019. Journals must have at least 100 supporting and/or contrasting cites in the measuring period to receive an SI.
