Kaggle Global Wheat Detection Competition | $15,000

Kaggle Global Wheat Detection Competition is associated with the Computer Vision Problems in Plant Phenotyping (CVPPP) Workshop at the 2020 European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV) on August 28, 2020.

Global Wheat Head Dataset

The Global Wheat Head Dataset is an initiative dedicated to high-quality wheat head data. It’s led by nine research institutes from seven countries:

  • The University of Tokyo
  • Institut national de recherche pour l’agriculture
  • l’alimentation et l’environnement
  • Arvalis
  • ETHZ
  • University of Saskatchewan
  • University of Queensland
  • Nanjing Agricultural University
  • Rothamsted Research

These institutions are joined by many in their pursuit of accurate wheat head detection, including the Global Institute for Food Security, DigitAg, Kubota, and Hiphen.

Kaggle Global Wheat Detection Competition

In this Kaggle Global Wheat Detection Competition, you’ll detect wheat heads from outdoor images of wheat plants, including wheat datasets from around the globe.

Using worldwide data, you will focus on a generalized solution to estimate the number and size of wheat heads. To better gauge the performance for unseen genotypes, environments, and observational conditions, the training dataset covers multiple regions.

You will use more than 3,000 images from Europe (France, UK, Switzerland) and North America (Canada). The test data includes about 1,000 images from Australia, Japan, and China.

Prizes

  • 1st Place – $ 8,000
  • 2nd Place – $ 4,000
  • 3rd Place – $ 3,000

Important Dates

  • July 28, 2020 – Entry deadline. You must accept the competition rules before this date in order to compete.
  • July 28, 2020 – Team Merger deadline. This is the last day participants may join or merge teams.
