Fight Malaria with Chemistry! UCT Postdoctoral Fellowships in Medicinal Chemistry

The University of Cape Town (UCT) is offering postdoctoral fellowships in medicinal chemistry. These fellowships are funded by the Holistic Drug Discovery and Development Centre (H3D), which is a consortium of researchers from UCT and other institutions.

Postdoctoral Fellowships in Medicinal Chemistry

The research focus of the fellowships will be on synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry. Fellows will learn to use and apply data from drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) and biological studies to design and synthesize potential drug leads for malaria and other infectious diseases.

Eligibility

  • PhD in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry within the past 5 years
  • Experience in multi-step organic synthesis and synthetic methodologies
  • Willingness to comply with UCT’s policies for postdoctoral fellows

Conditions of Award

  • Fellowships are only available to individuals who have received their PhD within the past 5 years
  • Applicants cannot have previously held full-time permanent professional or academic posts
  • Applicants must be in Cape Town at UCT for the duration of the fellowship
  • No benefits or allowances are included in the value of the fellowship

Value of the Fellowship

R350 000-R385 000 (depending on funding, seniority, and experience)

Period of Postdoctoral Fellowships in Medicinal Chemistry

One year, renewable for up to two further years
