Postdoctoral Researcher in Biology – Sweden

Örebro University, The School of Science and Technology is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in Biology, for a fixed-term appointment.

Subject Area

The position is within Biology/Environmental Science.

Background

A postdoctoral researcher within the field of environmental epigenetics.

Research frequently shows that pollutants cause health concerns, such as cancer, developmental toxicity, or behavioural disorders.

Recent studies discovered that these health risks are related to epigenetic changes that may be transferred over generations, even if they are no longer exposed.

Duties and Responsibilities of Postdoctoral researcher in Biology

The position as a postdoctoral researcher is intended to enable persons who have recently been awarded their doctoral degree, to consolidate and develop primarily their research skills.

The postdoctoral researcher will be primarily in charge of the transgenerational study with zebrafish and the investigation of molecular changes and adverse effects. Thus, the researcher shall spend his or her working hours mainly on research but will be also responsible for the technical and administrative day-to-day management.

The appointment may also include teaching, when there is a need within the organization, to facilitate the researcher to acquire qualifications for a teaching appointment at the University. The share of teaching may not exceed 20 per cent of a full-time position.

Eligibility

Eligible for the appointment as a postdoctoral researcher are applicants holding a doctoral degree in Biology or in related subject areas. The doctoral degree should have been awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline.

Candidates who have obtained their doctoral degree prior to that may however also be considered if special grounds exist (leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, clinical duties, an elected position in a trade union, or other similar circumstances).

Assessment criteria

The researcher should have a strong background in the field of transgenerational epigenetic inheritance. Besides, the candidate should have experience in transcriptome and metabolome as well as DNA methylation analyses.

Knowledge in the study of cell morphology and on the phenotype of zebrafish embryos will be valued. Any experience in the investigation of behavioural changes in zebrafish is an advantage.

Good oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory. General assessment criteria include good interpersonal skills and an ability to cooperate in an interdisciplinary environment and be able to work in a team.
